Let’s get to know me

Hellooo and welcome to my first blog! I have wanted to start writing a blog for a while now and thought now’s the best time to start. I want to create a small space on my website where I can have another creative outlet that is different to my illustrations. These blogs are going to be very casual and almost like you’re here reading a diary entry. Topics of fashion, current trends and sustainability will pop up as these are themes which I am passionate about and find fun. For this first post I thought it’d be a good place to start by just getting to know me a bit more. Nobody asked but here you go xx

The first thing you may want to know about me is where I’m from? I was born and bred from a seaside town on the Isle of Wight, but I now currently live in London, these places are two different worlds in my eyes, and I love them both for different reasons. The Isle of Wight will always be home to me, and I think it’s such a special place to have grown up, I love being able to go back and be by the sea when the city life gets too much. However, being now twenty-two I think that London Is where I am thriving the most in my life currently. I moved here for Uni in 2019 and have never looked back. I see myself staying in London for as long as possible as I know it’s where I feel the freest and myself. Coming from a place such as the island, there’s a lack of freedom and expression and the feeling of being judged. It’s not a secret that London is a place of creativity and self-expression so when I am here, I feel just that!

How this all started:

Illustration for me started from as long as I can remember, I have always loved art and getting crafty. I was always on the hunt to be doing something creative and new, from painting on stones I found on the beach to sewing little clothes for my barbie dolls and teddies with my nan, my weekends as a child were always filled with doing something creative. Drawing was something that I could do anywhere at any time, and I have continued this into my adult life too.

When I was younger, I don’t think I ever saw myself doing anything else other than something creative when I was older. I used to want to be a children’s book illustrator or a fashion designer (as most 12-year-old girls did), it’s funny looking back now because I am kind of doing that.

In 2017, I started an art instagram account were I started to post some digital illustrations, drawing digitally has all been self taught and just practicing through the years. My style as an artist has changed and developed over the years and i’m sure it’ll still change in the future as I grow as an artist. I studied fashion illustration at UAL and graduated in the summer of 2022, at Uni is where I found my current style I think constantly being surrounded by creative people really helped.

What else do you get up to?

In my free time, you’ll find me doing some drawing in my room whilst watching either some of my favourite Youtubers or currently it’s Love Island (it’s my guilty pleasure). Aside from drawing, mooching around charity shops and finding some new bargains is a hobby of mine – along with scrolling on vinted for hours on end finding some new cute pieces to fit in my wardrobe.

Putting on an outfit that makes me feel good and going for a long walk with a good podcast episode is honesty a dream combo for me. I love going to the park and sitting and reading my book or finding new coffee shops around London (if anyone has any coffee shop recommendations around London I’d love to hear). I value spending time by myself but even more so with my friends, going to the pub and having a big catch up is one of my favourite time passers.

I think that enough of me talking about myself for one day, I hope you got to know me a bit better! This may be a bit of a ramble and a slight shambles, but I have enjoyed writing my first blog post and I hope at least one person has enjoyed reading it too! Even if nobody is actually reading this, I have enjoyed just getting some words on a page and getting a bit creative in a different way.
